The old me was never willing to try new things. The thought of failing, discouraged me from the get-go. "I wasn't fit/healthy nor was I even close to having a somewhat decent body shape." "My body wasn't meant to do certain type of exercises because I wasn't flexible." These were all just bullsh*t excuses that I would tell myself. Of course, it was easier to convince myself I wasn't meant to do something rather than to try it out. If you have a body, you ARE an athlete. No matter what!
In the last year, fitness wise, I have tried so many different things I would probably NEVER get to try if I still had the mentality I had before. Stepping out of your comfort zone is actually a really beautiful thing. You get to live life far beyond what you know.
The second Fitness X session by adidas Women was a barre class at Pop Physique in Santa Monica, Ca. My first thought as soon as I saw "barre" on the Fitness X events schedule was, "WHAT THE HECK IS BARRE???" I had no idea and to be honest, I didn't bother looking it up. I instead wanted to be surprised.
If you read my previous post from the first Fitness X session, you know the deal. We check in at the store, run for a mile or so to our work out destination, which in this case, was Pop Physique. (Before I get into the class, let me just say that it made me BEYOND happy to find out two girls that attended, Kimberly and Erika, found out about the event through my blog post "Float like a Butterfly, Sting like a Bee"!)
As we checked in at Pop Physique, we all grabbed a mat, a ball, and two 2 lbs. and 3 lbs. weights. I was so nervous, I started sweating before the class even started! (lol) We kicked off the class with arm strengthening workouts on the mat and then progressed into workouts on the barre. It was a large group, so we didn't really get to have one on one time with the instructor to correct us if we were doing the exercise incorrectly. The class was 40 minutes long and for most of the class, I felt like I wasn't doing it right, except for the ab workouts. I for sure was feeling the burn on those!
You definitely need a lot of flexibility, strength and balance for barre. Overall, the class was a great experience, but I felt like barre wasn't the workout for me. I'm not sure if it's because I felt like I wasn't doing the workout right or if I simply just didn't like barre. Would I try it again though? Most definitely! I am open to giving it another try.
After the workout, we were given samples of Bonk Breaker nutrition bars and chews to try and lets just say, it was very difficult to hold back from eating all the caffinated energy cherry chews. (lol)
I'm already looking forward to the next Fitness X session! I can't wait to find out what the next class is going to be!
Fitness X classes are held every other Wednesday in Santa Monica until November . Feel free to check out the schedule HERE and sign up to experience Fitness X for yourself.
