I was blessed with the opportunity in joining Foot Locker to "Earn My Stripes" by volunteering at their 29th annual back-to-school giving back event in partnership with Fred Jordan Missions. More than 5,000 pairs of shoes were given out to under-privileged kids in the Los Angeles community, but it didn't stop there. They were also hooked up with clothes, backpacks, school supplies, hygiene products, In-N-Out burgers and haircuts.
Dozens of Foot Locker employees and "Stripers In Training", which included myself and some cool friends, lined up and got paired up with kids for a one-on-one experience. We greeted them as they parted ways with parents and led them inside the Fred Jordan Mission where we would be measuring their foot and hooking them up with a new pair of kicks. We would then walk out with them and have them try on their shoes to make sure they were the perfect fit, then hand them off to other volunteers who would then take them through the other stations.
(Side Note: In my teens, I ALWAYS wanted to work for a shoe store so it was so dope getting to wear the uniform for the day!)
It's so awesome that Foot Locker + Fred Jordan Missions give back to the community. It felt amazing knowing we were making these kids happy. Seeing the smiles on their faces and getting their high-fives was literally the icing on top of such a great event. This is something that I will never forget. We often forget how blessed we are and take things for granted, but being a part of this humbling experience really reminds you what are the things that matter.
Thank you to the entire Foot Locker team + Fred Jordan Missions for having me be a part of this event!
